NEW YORK — As the Houston Astros’ final pennant celebration unfolded across the street Sunday night, they bid farewell to the New York Yankees clubhouse.
“They’re a really good team. So are we,” said Jameson Taillon, after the Astros finished a four-game American League Championship Series sweep with a 6-5 win at Yankee Stadium.
“But they showed up when it mattered. Quality guns, quality sticks – a bit of everything.”

Here’s our final report from another deeply disappointing pinstripe postseason:
Harrison Bader
The No. 1 surprise powerhouse of the playoffs, going 10-for-30 (.333) with five homers, but that expensive stolen ball in Game 3 remains an indelible image of the ALCS.
Rating: A
Wandy Peralta
He became the ALDS hero, appearing in all five games and three days in a row – saving Elimination Game 4 and closing out Game 5 against Cleveland.
Rating: A-
Gerrit Cole
Won the ALDS twice, earning huge success in Game 4 at Cleveland. Why manager Aaron Boone lifted him in Round 6 of Game 3 of the ALCS will reverberate all winter long.
Grade: B+
Are they gone? :Are they gone? Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and other Yankees who could be elsewhere in 2023
Jonathan Loaisiga
Made six playoff appearances, pitched five scoreless innings in the ALDS, was generally effective but suffered the loss in Game 4 of the ALCS.
Grade: B+
Anthony Rizo
On base in eight of nine postseason games, batted .276 (8 for 29) overall with two doubles, two home runs and led the club with eight RBIs.
Grade: B+
Clay Holmes
Technically five scoreless playoff appearances, but gave up Alex Bregman’s RBI single in Game 4 of the ALCS.
Grade: B+
Nestor Cortes
Wasn’t at his best but set the tone on short rest (5 IP, 1 run) in ALDS Game 5 clincher. ALCS Game 4 early exit (groin injury) sped up exit Yanks playoffs.
Category B
Giancarlo Stanton
His two ALDS hits were homers but hit .167 overall. A few points for being pushed back in the away service for two left field starts.
Rating: C
Lou Trivino
Everyone will remember his first Yankees playoff series, it was Cole’s legacy three runners who scored in Game 3 of the ALCS.
Rating: C-
Luis Severino
Bottom line, loaded with six runs in 11 innings in two playoff starts, both losses to the Yankees.
Rating: C-
Judge Aaron
The league MVP hit two homers against Cleveland but went 1 for 16 against Houston, leaving him a very disappointing 5 for 36 (.139) overall.
Rating: D+

Jameson Taillon
Took the loss in ALDS Game 2, coming out of the bullpen for the first time. Played just 4.1 innings (one run) in Game 1 of the ALCS at Houston.
Rating: D+
Clarke Schmidt
Did not appear again after the Guardians beat him in ALDS Game 4 in Cleveland.
To note: D
Gleyber Torres
Finished a .176 postseason with zero extra hits while going 3 for 19 in the ALCS, with no RBI and a costly error in Game 4.
To note: D
Jose Trevino
Primary duty is behind the plate, but has provided next to nothing offensively, going 1 for 22 overall and 0 for 11 in the ALCS.
To note: D
Oswaldo Cabrera
The rookie started eight of nine playoff games at left field or shortstop, but overall he hit .071 (2 for 28) with a homer and went 0 for 9 in the ALCS.

Kyle Higashioka
The backup receiver started two postseason games, went 0 for 6 overall with five Ks and a walk.
Rating: D
Isiah Kiner-Falefa
The starting shortstop was benched in four postseason games due to defensive issues during the ALCS and batted a respectable-looking but shallow .278 (5 for 18).
To note: F
Matt Charpentier
Added to the roster after missing two months (fractured foot) but couldn’t get his groove back, going 1 for 12 with nine strikeouts mostly as a pinch hitter.
Rating: F
Josh Donaldson
Earned the extreme ire of Yankees fans with an ALCS beyond poverty (1 for 13, 10 strikeouts) to wrap up an empty 5-for-29 (.172) postseason.
To note: F
Coach Aaron Boone
Going to Schmidt, sticking with Carpenter, juggling starting/left field/shortstop decisions will persist, but taking Cole out — and going with Trivino — will haunt the offseason.
To note: D
