The rumor mill is pointing to an unprecedented iPhone Ultra appearing on the scene, and here’s everything we know about it so far.
The iPhone 14 series has only just been released, but already the internet is heating up with more and more rumors about Apple’s next line of handsets, and none of the information we’ve heard so far is as exciting as the news. that an iPhone 15 Ultra is potentially in the works.
It would be Apple’s best-performing smartphone of the year, even eclipsing the likes of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and so in the article below, we’ve rounded up all the information we know so far.
Release date
The iPhone 15 Ultra, if it does appear, will likely be unveiled alongside the rest of the iPhone 15 lineup, which we expect to appear around mid-September 2023. In fact, we’d put the smart money there being the whole thing. latest product unveiled that day, thanks to Apple’s traditional staging style.
The iPhone release date schedule is now pretty well established, and while we haven’t come across an official or unofficial launch date yet, it’s a safe bet that we’ll see the new iPhone series. (and potentially the Ultra as well) in early fall based on previous years:
While the device would likely be available for pre-order overnight, it will ship and be available on store shelves a few days after launch.
Price
There are a number of big questions surrounding the iPhone 15 Ultra, but one of the biggest is the price of such a proposition. Today’s high-end iPhones hardly come cheap, and logic dictates that it’s the most expensive of them all, so let’s just say it’s not going to be a budget purchase; you should only think about buying this beast if you have the cash to spare.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max, currently the most expensive smartphone offered by Apple, sells for $1099 / £1199, so you might have to expect a few hundred pounds or more more in order to get additional premium features. .
Design
Design is the area where we received the most information about this potential new iPhone. For starters, it’s very likely to have a USB-C port rather than a Lightning port, as confirmed (less than enthusiastically) by Apple executive Greg Joswiak, who, following a decision of the EU on the matter, “obviously we will have to comply, we have no choice.
Other than that, some potentially valuable information has come in courtesy of LeaksApplePro, a Twitter source who claimed that the new iPhone 15 Ultra will be cast in titanium. That certainly made sense considering it’s the same metal used in the construction of the Apple Watch Ultra, and perhaps indicates that Apple’s next phone will be similarly rugged.
What we would like to see
So far, rumors are pretty thin on the ground regarding the iPhone 15 Ultra. All told, it’s not certain there will be one at all, and we’ll have to wait for more substantiated leaks to surface before we can really kick off the launch countdown.
However, based on our experiences with the iPhone 14 series, there are still a few changes we’d like to see embodied in this possibly legendary device.
For starters, our editor Max Parker suggested this could be the perfect opportunity for Apple to embrace the foldable form factor for the first time, writing that such a redesign “makes a lot of sense” and “would give the high-end phone a distinct differentiation from the Pro models. We’ve seen Samsung have increasing success with this form factor, particularly with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, and it would undeniably be interesting to see how Apple could execute a similar idea.
If we’re looking for slightly more modest changes to the formula, we’ve offered a few suggestions based solely on our experience with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The first of these would be that Apple might consider adding curved sides to the phone’s screen, which would make a large screen device much easier to hold, especially with a size of 6.7 inches or more, as straight edges can otherwise be uncomfortable. when you hold it especially for long periods of time.
Beyond that, we’d definitely recommend paying a little more attention to zoom capabilities, as currently the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can clearly beat Apple’s best offerings on this count.
