As part of developer Remedy’s latest earnings briefing, the Finnish game studio has confirmed that one of its most anticipated upcoming games, Alan Wake 2, remains on track for a 2023 release. also provided development updates on its four other games in development, including its control suites.
Many games have been delayed lately for various reasons, but now we know that Alan Wake 2 is not one of them, although the schedule may change in the future. Anyway, Remedy also stated that Alan Wake 2 is now in “full production phase”.
“There’s still a lot of work to do, but the game is moving forward on all fronts. User testing continues, and feedback from user research has been encouraging,” Remedy said.
Alan Wake 2 is one of five games that Remedy is currently developing. The others include remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 in partnership with Rockstar Games. Remedy said development of these collaborative projects continues, with Remedy using “production and technology synergies” in its many games in development.
Control’s spin-off, Codename Condor, remains at the “proof of concept” stage. “We’re giving the team time to work through a host of important game design elements and finalize key pillars before moving the project into the next phase of development,” Remedy said.
Another new Control game, Codename Heron, is in the design phase, Remedy said. “Based on good early development progress, the team size was gradually increased,” Remedy said, adding that it was a “bigger budget” Control game.
The fifth new game in development at Remedy right now is a free-to-play co-op multiplayer game called Vanguard that the team is creating in partnership with Tencent. Remedy said Vanguard remains in the proof-of-concept phase and as such the size of the development team will not increase until 2023.
“Vanguard will be a large, service-based F2P game with a rich world and select new elements, making it stand out from other multiplayer games,” Remedy said. “We want to make sure all of these elements come together in the right way before making final decisions on plans for the next phase of development in 2023. At the moment many designs for the game are taking shape and the team is busy prototype and test them.”
