Former Pakistani players Shoaib Akhtar, Aaqib Javed, Moin Khan Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq came out strong after Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe. Akhtar blamed the whole setup from Babar Azam the captain to Rameez Raja the PCB chairman. Aaqib Javed said he was shocked to see some of the drummers’ techniques. And Moin Khan said it seems they never prepared for Australia’s bouncy runs as they lacked basic technique. Akhtar would also add that India will be kicked out of the World Cup in the semi-finals. Waqar felt that the Pakistani fly-half was battling with fear that the team would crumble if they went out and Misbah wondered if there was a bowling game plan.
Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel:
I’ve said it many times, those openers, the middle order aren’t good enough for us to be successful at that level. What can I say ?
Pakistan have a bad captain. Pakistan is out of the world cup in the second game. Against Zimbabwe.
Babar, shoot one but he’s not listening. Major flaw in the physical form of Shaheen Afridi. Major defect in the captaincy, management.
What kind of cricket did you go play? For God’s sake, you lost to Zimbabwe. Don’t you understand that your cricket is deteriorating. The management of the PCB Chairman has no brains… we had to bowl 4 bowlers, we bowled 3 fast bowlers. A good intermediate order is needed, you select something else.
It needed two good openers who can use the 30-yard circle. Fakhar Zaman is sitting there; you haven’t used it. He’s a full-back player, he would do well in Australia…
It’s really very annoying. In the end, it’s not for you but we have to face the media. We have to sit in India. We have to give answers to the world. What answers can we give now?
The game against India was almost won; you gave them on the plate. You cannot give the last Nawaz. It’s not his job to play the final.. it’s really disappointing.
I had already said that Pakistan would come back this week. And India will return next week after playing the semi-final. Voh be koi tees-maarkhan nahi hai (India is not an unbeatable side either) and we.. i’m so mad i don’t want to say bad things..
No plans, no intermediate order, no openers…I was saying if Zimbabwe played ball lengths they would win here. I don’t trust this team.
It’s horrible, terrible, disappointing. Allah hi hafiz hai aapka. You can’t expect an average person to make an average decision: selection committee – average person. Management — average. Team – average. Performance – below average.
Select more “newspaper naalayak (useless people). Don’t let the right people in. That’s what will happen. Bus roti khaa rahen, no planning…that’s what happens once you don’t you haven’t brought in brilliant minds. It’s sad and disappointing.”

What could be sadder than that? What stick is it. Bowlers have to give them a goal of 50 runs? The way Mohammad Rizwan was hitting… I was shocked to see Haider Ali hit. They didn’t teach him how to stop a straight ball? And he plays for Pakistan? If your technique isn’t there – you can’t even stop a straight ball, then what are the coaches doing in the net?
You can’t go any lower than that.

Shot selection and execution must be visible. With the ball bouncing, no movement of the feet to adapt to the conditions was visible. This then means that this selection was completely erroneous. No idea. You’re playing a World Cup in Australia and you haven’t prepared properly for the rebound conditions. It is a lack of professionalism.
It seems that we were not ready as professionals. We have been saying for a long time that the middle order was not good; we needed real drummers.
At least Shan Masood did the anchoring work. What happened to the rest?
So many dot balls. They went away from the ball on such pitches; how can you get runs when you get away from the ball?
Waqar Younis in A Sports
People are angry and that’s right. Today’s cricket was heartbreaking. I don’t know if they were overconfident or undercooked, it was disappointing. We did not fight. We were very poor. We played terrible cricket. I saw no schedule. We were just lost from the first ball. We were in the same shell – that we’ll fill the bowl, knock out the stumps. Not on these hard courts where there is bounce, grass, there is a way to play boules. I don’t think the coaches or the captain prepared…
Things got out of control. At one point I thought they would go 160-170. Yes they came back.
Then it was disappointing to see the way the openers hit. We didn’t know which way to go. They were running here and there. Exhaustion. It was Zimbabwe. If it was another team, they wouldn’t even let us get close.
Our openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan got a little apprehensive – I don’t know if it’s due to the bouncing of the grass. They’ve been so successful, and you won’t play positively and if you don’t play fearlessly, I’m going out. I also coached this team. I feel like they sense what would happen if I go out – our openers have that. But this feeling is also transferred to the middle order. There is a way to play T20 cricket and we don’t play that way.
Misbah-ul-Haq in A Sports
What did South Africa do against Zimbabwe in the last match? There was a clear line up that they were troubled against a short ball. We haven’t played a single shortball for that long. You have to get them in trouble as soon as they come up to bat. Instead, they gave limits at the start. If we keep making the same mistakes in the World Cups… We knew Zimbabwe could do it; they may have limited batting resources, but the bowling is good. We’ve played against them enough and we should have been vigilant about that. We should have gotten the total as low as possible.
And our batter. It doesn’t even look like we can get 100 races. Lack of confidence. Even now, anything can happen in this World Cup. It’s always open. We have to wake up. We have to get out of this shell.
