Paulina Porizkova is not afraid to reveal everything.
While promoting the upcoming release of her new book, No filter: the good, the bad and the beautifulwhich comes out on November 15, the Swedish model opened up about beauty, heartbreak and aging in a recent interview with Women’s Everyday Wear (WWD).
The 57-year-old has gained a following for her honest Instagram posts about the modeling industry, fitness and aging – and this conversation is no exception.
Asked about writing her new memoir, Porizkova revealed that it was her Instagram account that prompted her to take the plunge.
Specifically, she revealed that since she already posts her “thoughts, processes and emotions” on the app, she would use her account as a basis to go “deeper” into the book.
Despite the mother-of-two’s success on social media, it was grief over her husband’s death that sparked her interest in the online world.
“When my husband died and COVID-19 happened I was so lonely and sad and devastated and there was no one there but me. So literally [social media] was I reaching out,” she explains. “… What is remarkable is that there were so many people suffering at the same time and people dealing with grief. .. then my open grief resonated because so many people were going through it.”
With a follower count of 840,000, the actress’s posts certainly resonated with many people, especially women of the same age who approached her on the street and thanked her for being so vulnerable. .
That said, with online fame comes a slew of haters who criticized her bikini or nude photos. However, instead of blocking online trolls, she chooses to embrace them.
“I just want to look as good as possible given the limitations.”Paulina Porizkova
“Most people I know in the public eye will just ignore it. They’ll just block it out. They’ll get someone else to clean their food for them. It actually stimulates my brain,” says Porizkova.
An integral part of sharing her life online, the model has been open about her beauty regimen and the “subtle” treatments she uses to look her best.
Although Porizkova did not use a needle, she said WWD that she participates in non-invasive options like facial yoga and oxygen facials.
“I just want a little subtle help. I don’t want drastic stuff. I don’t want to eliminate my age. I just want to look as good as possible given the limitations,” she adds.
Despite the fact that Porizkova thinks some women look “beautiful” with injectables, the Sports Illustrated alum finds that they reduce someone’s ability to express themselves.
“I really like that I can have a conversation with you and I can react to what you say and you’ll know exactly what I’m thinking,” she explains. “…It’s clearly visible on my face and I feel like faces aren’t for that? To communicate? Communication is more important than looking good at this point, so I don’t want to take that off.”

But when people decide to do cosmetic work, the model wants them to admit it to avoid setting unrealistic beauty standards.
Still, Porizkova isn’t the only celebrity looking to change the conversation about beauty and aging. Brooke Shields launched Beginning Is Now, a wellness platform that promotes “positivity” and “opportunity” among women aged 40 and over.
Additionally, actress Naomi Watts recently launched Stripes, a menopausal beauty brand aimed at ending the “shame and secrecy” surrounding menopause.
However, Porizkova is not interested in brands or companies. Instead, she focuses her efforts on her craft – writing.
“Honestly, I’m a writer. I’m not a businesswoman. What I really love is writing, connecting and communicating…” she says.
At the end of the conversation, Porizkova explains that she’s not one to give advice, especially to young models “because it’s such a different job.”
That said, she communicates a parting thought: “If you make money, make sure you put it away, make sure it’s in your own bank account, and don’t give it to anyone else. “
