Warning: spoilers ahead for Dragon House episode 10!HBO Dragon House is no stranger to gruesome deaths, but the Season 1 finale reveals just how gruesome the impending conflict of the Dance of the Dragons will be. In Dragon House season, episode 10, Westeros is on the brink of war after Aegon II usurps the throne from Princess Rhaenyra. Planning for the impending conflict, Rhaenyra’s husband Daemon urges her to secure victory by deploying their dragons. Rhaenyra is suspicious, but the last moments of the Dragon House Season 1 finale see Rhaenyra discover that Lucerys has been slain by Aemond and his dragon Vhagar. The look Rhaenyra gives to the camera shows that she is now ready to do anything to get revenge, win the war and reclaim her throne.
The use of dragons as weapons is what will make the Dance of the Dragons so gruesome. When Rhaenyra is pressured to use beasts for Dragon Houseof the war room scene, she references their bloody history in delivering one of her most memorable lines to date, “When the dragons flew to war, everything burned. I don’t wish to rule a kingdom of ash and bone.” Dragons in both game of thrones and Dragon House, large and dangerous as they are, represent weapons of mass destruction that increase the stakes and casualties of the battle. Now that the dragons go to war once again, the Dance of the Dragons setup promises a devastating war to come.
House Of The Dragon Deaths And Destruction Will Get Worse
The murder of Lucerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s son, is the first of many acts in a very violent war. Dragon House viewers have already gotten their first taste of what dragon battles are like, but much worse is to come in season 2. Vhagar is the greatest of all dragons in Dragon House, and its size is clearly shown during the battle against Lucerys and the much smaller Arrax. A dragon’s ability to cause massive destruction was also demonstrated in game of thrones season 8 when Daenerys demolished Kings Landing on her dragon, Drogon, turning the city to ashes, slaughtering the majority of the innocent population, and earning the title “The Mad Queen”.
These are isolated feats, however. Later in the Dance of the Dragons, all the dragons belonging to the warring factions of Westeros will participate in many bloody battles, resulting in countless human and dragon casualties. The fire-breathing action shown so far is just a sampling of the creatures’ fearsome potential, and the death of Lucerys Velaryon makes it clear that the Dragon House the writers do not plan to flee the horrors of war. Like a prequel to the inauguration game of thrones, Dragon House audiences can expect a crimson depiction of warfare known as the Dance of the Dragons.
How Long Is The Dragon Dance (And Who Wins)
In the novels of George RR Martin, the Dance of the Dragons rages from 129 AC to 131 AC. Aegon II’s entire reign is marred by the war against Rhaenyra Targaryen, his half-sister, on the Iron Throne. Aegon sustains severe injuries throughout the conflict, leaving him badly burned and deformed. In 130 AC, Rhaenyra takes King’s Landing but is deemed a traitor and expelled soon after. Aegon then feeds her to his dragon, Sunfyre. Despite Rhaenyra’s death, the Dance of the Dragons still does not end, as the Dark armies continue their march on King’s Landing to dethrone Aegon.
With the green armies exhausted and the war nearly lost, Aegon still refuses to surrender. Eventually, Aegon II is found dead in the royal seven, likely poisoned by his own men to end the war. Rhaenyra’s son, Aegon III, is crowned soon after. Who wins the Dance of the Dragons is therefore somewhat subjective. Aegon II survives Rhaenyra, but Rhaenyra’s descendant sits on the Iron Throne once the war is over. Not necessarily indebted to its source material, Dragon House can choose a more definitive winner.
