Silent Hill 2 officially happening! Fans of the horror video game series have long dreamed of a sequel to the 2006 film. Now they’re getting it.
The film, titled Back to Silent Hillhas been officially confirmed and will be based on the video game sequel itself.
Director Christophe Gans, who helmed the first film, returns for the new game adaptation and spoke to game developer Konami about his plans for the film in a six-minute video that featured concept art for the image.
“The film tells the story of a young man who returns to silent Hillwhere he found great love and what he’s about to find is pure nightmare,” Gans said.

“First silent Hill, we were exploring a world. The world of this small town, closing in on the mist. It was like being trapped in The twilight zone. But in the second game, the game creator changed the rules.
“So we basically come back to silent Hillthe same city, but we were looking at this weird world and saying the point of view of the hero we were playing.”
Gans continued, “It’s much more psychological horror even though we’re going to find all the same creatures and the same sequence of terror.”
Gans said the first film was a hit with fans of the silent Hill video game because they thought he was one of them – a fan. He went on to say that “it all starts with respect” for his film’s source material.

He said one of his “major goals” for the next film is how to reimagine the classic monster of silent Hill – Pyramid head. The creature will return in the sequel, but fans will also see plenty of new things not seen in the original, which starred Sean Bean.
Producer Victor Hadida also told fans that the film will feature a mix of fidelity to the spirit of video games and a new modernity, which he says is needed since 15 years have passed since the previous film.
“There is a clear idea from Christophe to make it modern but also very faithful to the video game. We also respect the will of the authors, producers and Konami in this adaptation”, explained Hadida.
“Christophe is really someone who respects the work that has been done, but who also has his own vision.”

the original silent Hill the film adapted the first video game but also loosely incorporated elements from the second, third and fourth silent Hill video games.
It was poorly received by critics, scoring a low 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, but was a hit with fans of the game series.
