Camelbak says MULE is short for “medium to ultra-long effort,” and their new waist pack (or do you call it a fanny pack?) is the latest to be included in this category. It comes with a 1.5L bladder and hose that’s held in place magnetically, or you can ditch the bladder and carry a bottle on either side via pockets with straps that keep them from coming out. You also have 3.5L of cargo capacity (adding up to 5L, hence the name) from separate pockets on either side of the hipbelt and a divided main compartment.
• 3.5L cargo, divided tool pockets
• 1.5 L bladder
• Magnetic hose control
• Two bottle sleeves
• MSRP: $90

If you have too much stuff to fit inside, an adjustable bungee on the top of the bag is a good place to carry a jacket or your knee pads, and there are also some reflective touches added to keep you visible on the road. . . The $90 Mule 5 can be purchased in black, gray, or navy and orange.
If you want to carry a lot more on your ride and want to protect yourself a bit, Evoc’s new Trail Pro 16 gives you 16 liters of storage while incorporating their Liteshield PLUS back protector. The German bag brand claims the Trail Pro 16 is fairly light (no weights are provided) but you can shed even more weight by easily removing the EN 1621-2, Level 2 back panel if you don’t feel like you need it for the day. stroll.
If you leave it, know that Evoc claims that it “absorbs 95% of impact energy in the event of a collision”. Better still, they will even replace it for free if it is damaged while preserving your back.
• 16L of storage
• Liteshield PLUS back protector (level 2)
• Suitable for 3 L bladder (not included)
• Separate zipped pockets on the waistband
• Split main storage
• Integrated rain cover, helmet holder
• Colours: grey, olive/grey, lavender
• Size: SM, LXL
• MSRP: $260
• More info: www.evocsports.com
The $260 Trail Pro 16 does not come with a bladder from Evoc, but it will carry 3 liters of fluid if you add your own. This is a bag big enough to use for some serious hiking, so it’s good that Evoc has equipped it with useful features for your ill-planned adventures as well. Facing a massive porterage to get to the goods? You can put your helmet in the bag’s mesh holder so you don’t have to wear it when climbing the mountainside. Caught in a side rain? Pull the rain cover over the bag to keep your jumbo bread pretzel dry. Buddy still needs to borrow your multi-tool? The tool pockets on the waist strap can be opened and closed with one hand, so you can just throw it at its head and keep riding.
Sometimes you have to cut through town and traffic to get to the trails, and do you know who always wins in the event of a collision? Cars, unfortunately, that’s why it’s always better to think defensively and preventatively than “This will never happen to me!”
Lupine offers a bunch of crazy bright headlights, but it’s their pint-sized C14 Mag taillight that’s pictured here, an 87-gram unit that puts out 45 lumens and incorporates a brake light and brightness sensor.
• Power: 45 lumens
• Magnetic holder
• Aluminum case, bracket
• Magnetic USB charging cable
• Autonomy: 22 hours
• Charging time: 3 hours
• Weight 87 grams
• MSRP: €125.00
• More info: www.lupin.de
This is not a disposable plastic tail light; the C14’s body is CNC-milled aluminum, as is the bracket that attaches to your seat rails, and the two snap together thanks to the inexplicable mystery of magnets. This means that instead of farting with tiny screws, a tough rubber band or a plastic clip that will break after a month thanks to your sausage fingers, all you have to do is hold it against the bracket and it will snap into place.
Lupine says the built-in battery will last 22 hours on a full charge, which takes 3 hours to reach via the supplied magnetic USB charging cable. At $125.00, consider the C14 Mag an everlasting tail light over the cheaper plastic lights that eventually bite the dust.
