Octopath Traveler II is set to arrive on Switch on February 24, 2023, and in the lead up to this all-new journey, Square Enix has shared information about the eight different heroes whose paths you can, uh, travel.
We got a taste of what each of these characters will bring to the game in the Octopath Traveler II trailer that was released as part of this year’s Nintendo Direct Showcase. While the trailer did a good job of revealing the names of the eight characters and the type of jobs they hold, it did provide a bit more information on what we can expect to find in their paths. or how their abilities will play out in battle.
Luckily, Square Enix has started releasing more details about these characters, and we’ve gathered all the necessary information in the guide below.
Character profiles seem to come out every few days, so keep an eye on this page as we’ll continue to update the guide with everything we know.
Octopath Traveler II Character List
Revealed in the Direct trailer, Octopath Traveler II will see the eight different heroes interact with each other on their journeys. The extent of this interaction is currently unknown, but the level of overlap is sure to make knowing each character’s unique abilities more important than ever.
Hikari the Warrior
The first hero to receive a character profile is Hikari, the warrior, whose path is titled “A Journey for Home”.
The official Octopath Traveler 2 website provides a brief summary of the character of Hikari, which according to the Google Translate function reads as follows:
This is the Hinoeuma region, where the wind blows the dust. You are “Swordsman” Hikari Ku, 21 years old. You, who were born as the second prince of the land of Ku, are most worried about the land and its people who are constantly at war.
The Swordsman possesses a variety of sword and spear attacks, making him a physical attacking member of the party.
Path Action:
During the day, Hikari can apply himself to fighting local townspeople using the “Match” terrain command. A certain character level will need to be reached to fight stronger opponents.
At night, Hikari will be able to bribe other characters with money. The amount of each bribe will depend on who you talk to and what information is required.
Single action:
By winning a battle, Hikari will learn a technique from his opponent which can then be used in future fights.
Shadow Power:
Hikari appears to possess a special ability called “Shadow Power” which unleashes high damage attacks without consuming SP.
Agnée, the dancer
Agnea – also called “the dancer” – is the main character of the “A Journey for Stardom” storyline.
According to her character summary on the Octopath Traveler II website, Agnea’s path will be one of the healthiest in the game, traveling across the land in an attempt to continue her mother’s dancing prowess:
This is the Leafland region where the rich forest extends. You are an 18-year-old “dancer”, Agnea Bistani. Dancing in a small bar in a small country town, you have a very big dream. Your journey begins with your heart full of hope.
Dancer abilities allow Agnea to grant bonuses to her allies such as boosting their attacks, removing enemy shields, and changing the order of battle commands.
Path action:
By day, Agnea will be able to talk to the townspeople and take them on her journey by using the “temptation” command.
At night, Agnea will be able to use an ability to beg offerings from the townspeople.
Single action:
Any dancer moves used in combat will grant bonuses to any townspeople who were brought in with the “temptation”.
Score, the Merchant
Partitio, “the Merchant”, is the hero of “A Journey to Prosperity” – a quest that seems to be focused on eliminating poverty and achieving a sense of equality across the country.
In the trailer for Direct, the character can be found making the following statement, “I’m hitting the road. I’ll be back once I get this devil called poverty out of the world.”
Osvald, the Scholar
Holding the title of “The Scholar”, Osvald’s storyline was revealed in the original trailer titled “A Journey for Revenge”.
The character can be seen appearing outside a burning house, as his voiceover says, “the man who took everything from me will die by my hand”. Are we safe to assume that Osvald’s family was trapped in this house? All will be revealed when we see his official synopsis.
Throne, the Thief
There is very little that we can currently presume of Throné, “the thief”. We know she’ll be the main hero of “A Journey for Freedom,” but it’s unclear what that will actually entail.
The Direct’s trailer saw Throne say, “Not yet. Not that stench. The stench of blood,” while a small amount of gameplay footage saw the thief being whipped by her mother.
Temenos, the Cleric
Temenos the Cleric will clearly rely on magical abilities throughout his storyline, “A Journey for the Truth.”
The small amount of gameplay footage we’ve seen of the character so far seemingly sees them summoning other characters to their aid in battle.
Ochette, the hunter
Ochette’s job is that of a hunter, and their storyline seems to be animal-themed. They will be the main hero of “A Journey for Legends”, although it is not yet known what their abilities will entail.
Castti, the Apothecary
Taking on the position of “apothecary,” Castti’s story seems to be all about delving into the character’s past.
The official title of her journey is ‘A Journey for Memories’ and the Direct trailer reinforces this sense of introspection, with the character declaring ‘I need to rediscover who I am’.
At the time of writing, this is all the character information we have received for Octopath Traveler II. More information will be revealed in the coming weeks and we will continue to update this guide accordingly.
