Yes, we have yet another German automaker trying to save manuals, a seven-speed gearbox at a time

Porsche’s famed 911 Carrera will see the addition of ‘T’ trim, also known as ‘Touring’ trim, for 2023, and for the #savethemanuals crowd with deep pockets and long arms, that’s certainly good news.

Arriving (barring supply chain problems) in the spring of 2023, the 911 Carrera T will hard for drivers who value an exhilarating driving experience. I mean, the rear seats will be omitted, while the Porsche Active Suspension Management system which lowers it by 10mm (not new, but worth noting) will be present.

Powering the T will be a twin-turbo engine producing 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque through a standard seven-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic, a “PDK,” in Porsche parlance. Yes, it’s the same engine as the entry-level Carrera 911, which is no shame.

The manual comes with a locking mechanical rear differential, and all Ts come with the Sport Chrono package. Cleverly, you can check a radio button (which I would) for rear wheel steering, to improve cornering and handling.
Staggered wheels see 20 inches in the front and 21 in the rear, and the standard Sports Seat Plus gives you (so generously) four-way power settings. Want something better? Of course you do! Adaptive Sport Seat Plus (18-way adjustable and electric) and lightweight full bucket seats with Race Tex seat centers are paid options.
Since power-to-weight ratio is critical in the world of performance, Porsche has made the manual ‘T’ the lightest in its lineup, weighing in at just 1,470kg. For that, we can thank the aforementioned omitted rear seats, coupled with reduced insulation, lighter glass and a lighter battery.

It is the fourth “T” iteration of the Porsche lineup, complementing the existing 718 Cayman T, 718 Boxster T and Macan T. If you’re unfamiliar with the Porsche strategy, the ‘T’ slots between entry-level and S, making it somewhat ‘affordable’ compared to the rest of the range.
On the color side, you can choose from black, white, red or yellow for a solid color; or four metallic finishes, in black, blue, gray and silver. Of course, you can also go for special colors, with options exceeding a hundred.
Want one? Of course you do! Well, at least I do. Starting at $132,000 CDN, though, I better start writing more articles and making more videos here.
